LG has begun sending invitations to a press event in New York on Wednesday, August 7. The company is expected to unveil its much-anticipated Optimus G2 smartphone, which is likely to go up against the latest Android flagships with a 1080p display, and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

Although we can’t be sure the Optimus G2 will be the start of next month’s show, LG gave us a pretty big hint in its invitation. Take a look at the picture above and you’ll notice the company has made the letter ‘G’ and the number ‘2’ clearly stand out.

On top of this, the Optimus G2 has been spotted out in the wild, as you can see in the very blurry images below, which were obtained by Android Community. They don’t tell us too much about the device, but rumored specs include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, and possibly 3GB of RAM.
