AT&T has today announced the LG Optimus G Pro, a 5.5-inch Android-powered smartphone that will sell for $199 when it launches on May 3. The device is designed to give Samsung’s Galaxy Note II a run for its money, with a 1080p display and the latest quad-core Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm.

For a while, those looking for a “phablet” got to choose between the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Note II, because they were really the only super-sized smartphones worth spending your cash on. But that’s no longer the case. In recent months we’ve seen a number of competitors that look very attractive, and the Optimus G Pro is one of them.

In addition to its 5.5-inch 1080p display, the device offers a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. It also has LTE connectivity for access to AT&T’s speedy 4G network.

The Optimus G Pro is loaded with an AT&T “Value Pack” that provides additional software features, including Dual Recording, which allows simultaneous recording with both front- and rear-facing cameras. Check out its promotional video below:
