Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Will Launch In The U.S. On April 11, Priced At $399
Samsung has today confirmed that the new Galaxy Note 8.0 will launch in the United States on April 11, priced at $399. The device will be available in-stores and online from a number of retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, Staples, and TigerDirect.com.
Announced at Mobile World Congress back in February, the Galaxy Note 8.0 is Samsung’s answer to the iPad mini. It resembles a giant Galaxy S III, sporting an 8-inch display with a 1280×800 resolution, a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos processor, and 2GB of RAM.
It offers a maximum of 16GB of internal storage — there are no 32GB or 64GB options — but it does have a microSD card slot that’ll allow you to add another 64GB of storage.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 will ship running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. Because it’s a Note device, you also get a whole suite of Samsung apps and features designed to work with the S Pen stylus, including AirView, Awesome Note, and more.
“The Galaxy Note defined an entirely new smartphone category and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet redefined the tablet experience for consumers,” said Travis Merrill, vice president of Samsung America.
“With the Galaxy Note 8.0, we fully expect to ignite the mid-size tablet market Samsung pioneered with the first Galaxy Tab. The Galaxy Note 8.0 is small enough to fit in your pocket or purse and packs the power needed for full mobile entertainment and productivity.”
We got our hands on the Galaxy Note 8.0 at MWC, and we were pretty impressed with it. Although it’s not a cutting-edge tablet, it’s a very capable device, and an ideal purchase for those who find 10-inch tablets too big. It’s very much the iPad mini alternative for Android fans.
It comes with some free content, too. Buyers get 50GB of Dropbox storage for two years, one month of free unlimited music streaming from Samsung’s Music Hub, and a $25 Google Play gift card.
