Google’s Niantic Labs — the guys behind the life exploring Field Trip app — have created a new game, a game full of mystery, science, technology, and believe it or not — the real world!

Right now the game is invite only (closed-beta) and since I’m still waiting for my invite, I can only speculate that it involves some form of augmented reality. The description is as mysterious as the cryptic videos so there’s no saying for sure.

From what I’ve gathered, a mysterious energy is discovered, an energy so powerful that it spawns to cults of believers:

• “The Enlightened” seek to embrace the power that this energy may bestow upon us.
• “The Resistance” struggle to defend, and protect what’s left of our humanity.

You’ll be tasked with either advancing the cause of the Enlightened or the Resistance by using your Android device to discover and tap sources of this mysterious energy. Acquire objects to aid in your quest, deploy tech to capture territory, and ally with other players.

The app is live in the Play store, and although you’ll need an invite to play, you can find all the necessary links and information in the app description.
