The Nexus 7 To Become A “Playstation Certified” Device?

At today’s Gamescon in Germany, Sony announced its plans to bring more games and more devices to Playstation Mobile (aka Playstation Suite). Only two new manufacturers were mentioned, but when they uttered the name “ASUS,” the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Could it be? Could the amazing, wallet friendly, powerhouse Nexus 7 gain the title “Playstation Certified”?

If you didn’t already know, Sony only offers Playstation Mobile support, including development support as well as logo licensing, to manufacturers it designates as meeting SCE standards. HTC recently acquired such certification, and if ASUS has now gained it, there’s a good chance the Nexus 7 may soon have access to Playstation Mobile and all of its games.

While I won’t hold my breath, it would add one more reason to pick up the Nexus 7 (or any other ASUS product) over its competition. As for new titles, Sony mentioned “bite-sized” games, which doesn’t exactly scream “Playstation Power.” The good news is: any game purchased with your PlayStation Network ID will be available to play on any PlayStation Certified Device, including the PS Vita. Yay for portability!

ASUS sure is putting on a good show, hope they keep it up.
