Alongside its new Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony today unveiled the Xperia Z5 Compact, which offers smartphone shoppers flagship specifications inside a smaller form factor.

The Xperia Z5 Compact packs almost everything you get in its bigger brothers but combines it with a significantly smaller 4.7-inch display that allows it to be much easier to handle.

If you want the latest specifications in a smartphone that’s going to last you a few years, you normally have to choose a larger device. Smaller handsets typically employ midrange components instead in an effort to be more affordable, but the Xperia Z5 Compact is an exception to that rule.

It’s powered by the same Snapdragon 810 processor found in the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium, plus 2GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, and a 2,700mAh battery. The Compact also boasts the same “next-generation” 23-megapixel camera as the larger models.

That means you get the same six-element lens, phase-detection pixels, the “fastest autofocus in a leading smartphone,” and 4K video recording.

The Xperia Z5 Compact is also water-resistant, and it has a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button on its right side. The device runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and Sony has done away with its own interface to deliver a near-pure Android experience.

You’ll be able to pick up the Xperia Z5 Compact this October when it goes on sale alongside the Xperia Z5.
