LG has no plans to bring the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop release to its brand new G4, the company has confirmed. Users are now stuck with the software that was pre-installed on their G4 until it gets Android M, but there’s no word on when that’ll happen.

LG confirmed last week that it would not be bringing Android 5.1 Lollipop to last year’s G3, and now the company is taking a similar stance with Android 5.1.1 for its latest flagship. It means that G4 owners won’t see any new features or improvements until Android M.

That wouldn’t be so bad if LG rolled out Android M this fall, when Google makes the software available to the public, but it won’t. The company will have to optimize the software for the G4, then add its own user interface, apps, and features. Then there’s the necessary carrier approval process.

It’s likely to be early next year before the G4 sees Android M, then, and that’s a long time to go without a software update.
