Over the past couple days, you may have read reports that suggest the Samsung Galaxy Gear is a flop because it has only sold 50,000 units. But in actual fact, it’s the complete opposite. In just two months, it has become the world’s most popular smartwatch with 800,000 sales worldwide.

Many expected the Galaxy Gear to fail after mostly poor reviews that pointed out its many downfalls. But fans have clearly been willing to overlook those things to get their hands on Samsung’s first Android-powered wearable.

“Samsung Electronics Co said on Tuesday its Galaxy Gear has become the world’s most popular smartwatch with sales reaching 800,000 since its debut two months ago, defying some market concerns the accessory would fail due to a lack of compelling features,” Reuters reports.

The Galaxy Gear has been even more successful than Samsung expected, and the company now plans to ramp up its promotions for the $299 device during the lucrative holiday season. It’s also planning to expand Galaxy Gear compatibility with other Galaxy devices.

“It’s the most sold wearable watch available in the market place… and we plan to expand its availability by expanding mobile devices that work with the Gear,” Samsung said in a statement.
