Samsung Announces 7-Inch Galaxy Tab 3

If Samsung’s 8-inch Galaxy Note tablet is a little too large for your rucksack, then maybe the company’s new 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 will be better suited. Announced this morning, the new slate comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-installed, and will be available globally in May.

The Galaxy Tab 3’s 7-inch display offers a 1024×600 WSVGA resolution, which is a little low by today’s standards, but it is capable of displaying HD video. The slate also packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front, and a 3-megapixel camera on the back.

It’s powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. We’re assuming that those specifications mean the Galaxy Tab 3.0 will be nicely priced, but Samsung is yet to make that information available.

The Galaxy Tab 3 measures 111.1 x 188.0 x 9.9mm, and weighs 302 grams if you go with the Wi-Fi only model, which rolls out globally next month. The 3G capable model, which makes calls and will be available in June, weighs 306 grams.
