Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab 2 Pricing And Availability, Throws In A Pair Of Galaxy Players For Good Measure

Samsung decided to drop a barrel of devices on us yesterday, all of which came with pricing and availability details (I know, right?). After a brief delay, it appears Samsung has managed to get TouchWiz to play nice with Android 4.0, finally making the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 ready for prime time.

Both the 7.0 and 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 tablets will feature a dual-core processor, Android 4.0, and an IR blaster which sounds cooler than it actually is. You’ll be surprised to know Samsung has made their Galaxy Tab 2 series quite affordable with the 7.0 joining the sub-$300 club at $249.99 and the 10.1-inch model coming in a tad higher at $399.99. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is available for pre-order now and will be available for purchase on April 22. The Tab 2 10.1 won’t be available for pre-order until May 4th and then for purchase on May 13.

Samsung also threw in the announcement of a couple Galaxy Players. These contract-less players will come in both a 4.2-inch WVGA screen or 3.6-inch HVGA screen variant. These are Samsung’s Android versions of an iTouch and will run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The Galaxy Player 3.6 is available now for $149.99 exclusively at Best Buy and soon at other retailers. The Galaxy Player 4.2 joins the Tab 2 10.1 and won’t be available for pre-order until May 4th and then for purchase on May 13.

In addition, the Galaxy Tab 2 products are fully Google certified for complete access to Google Play (formerly Android Marketplace) and competitively priced at $399.99 and $249.99, respectively – so consumers no longer need to compromise when selecting a tablet.

“These new Galaxy Tab 2 and Galaxy Player devices deliver what consumers have come to expect from all Samsung products – exceptional design, impressive connectivity options and a selection of choices for each type of person and user scenario,” said Tim Baxter, President, Samsung Electronics America. “A one size fits all solution is just not sufficient.”

Galaxy Players put Android in the Hand – without Service Contracts
