Google has released an Android TV app for iOS, allowing users to control their television or set-top box from an iPhone or iPad. It comes almost two years after Android TV made its debut on the Nexus Player.

Why would an iPhone owner have an Android TV? I know that’s what you’re thinking. Well, some of the latest sets simply come with Android TV pre-installed, and not everyone is committed to just one platform.

Plus, Apple claims that Android owners are switching to iPhone faster than ever before, and there’s a good chance some of them own Android TV devices that played nicely with their old Android phone.

Making a remote app for iPhone and iPad makes sense, then.

It’s basic, but the Android TV app for iOS offers everything you’d find inside its Android counterpart. You get playback controls, a d-pad that lets you navigate around, and a voice input button that lets you feed your Android TV device voice commands.
