Sony’s latest Marshmallow concept firmware comes with a new Xperia theme engine, allowing users to overhaul the look of their device in a flash. The update also adds support for the Sony smart cover, makes it possible to set a default home screen, and more.

Sony has been working on a cleaner approach to Android for many months, and those who own an Xperia Z3 or Xperia Z3 Compact are able to test its software during the development phase. The latest update is a big one, adding a number of new features and improvements.

In addition to the Xperia theme engine, which lets users apply custom wallpapers, icons, and other user interface elements in a few taps, the release brings the following:

  • Increases the media volume steps
  • Simple support for Sony smart cover
  • Added Screenshot in power off menu
  • Application on SD card is not removed
  • Platform stability fixes
  • Sony Album Stability fixes
  • Possible to set default Home screen

This update is rolling now to all users who are part of the Marshmallow concept beta, and it’s likely it will also be made available for manual flashing for those who aren’t soon. In the meantime, you can view some screenshots from this release on Xperia Blog via the source link below.
