AT&T has begun rolling out patches for the dreaded Stagefright vulnerability for customers with an HTC One M8 or One M9. It’s a small update that won’t take long to download or install, and we recommend you grab it as soon as you can.

Stagefright is perhaps one of the biggest and most disturbing vulnerabilities discovered in Android, and it allows millions of devices to be hacked with just a text message. Hackers are able to deliver the SMS when you’re away from your device and steal data remotely without leaving any evidence of an attack.

It’s no wonder, then, that device makers have been scrambling to rollout fixes. We’ve already seen them from OnePlusGoogle, Samsung, and others, and now HTC One M8 and One M9 owners on AT&T are getting theirs with updates that weigh in anywhere between 28MB and 55MB.

They won’t take long to download — even over a 4G connection — and it’s best you install them as soon as you can to ensure your handset isn’t left vulnerable. Although it may not be all that exciting, this isn’t a patch you’ll want to put off.
