Samsung seeks designers (and brands!) for Galaxy Themes

One of the biggest additions to Samsung’s new TouchWiz software is the Theme Store, which lets users ditch their handset’s default look in favor of a third-party design. Now Samsung is looking for designers and brands to create new Galaxy Themes.

“Be the designer for the Galaxy Themes!” reads Samsung’s new webpage, which is calling for designers and brands to apply to Samsung for the opportunity to make their themes available through the Theme Store.

“We welcome any designer, character, brand or others,” the company adds. Applicants simply need to submit a reference and their portfolio, along with a brief introduction, to email hidden; JavaScript is required.

I’m not sure I like the idea of themes created by brands, but of course, they’re entirely optional. One of the first third-party Galaxy Themes has been designed by The LEGO Group, and if you’re a LEGO fan, it’s actually pretty cool.

But it’s great to see Samsung is recruiting designers for the Theme Store, which is looking pretty bare right now.

It’s also nice to see the company will be hand-selecting each design, rather than allowing everyone to submit their own, which could lead to a cluttered Theme Store filled with designs no one would ever use.

For now, the Theme Store is only available on the new Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, but it will be available on other Samsung devices when they receive the latest TouchWiz software.
