Motorola’s smartphones are praised for having near pure Android firmware, but the company has a habit of putting carrier names in the status bar by default. And for the vast majority, it’s nothing but annoying — after all, it’s not like you’re going to forget which carrier you’re with, right?

Fortunately, it’s super simple to hide it, and you won’t even need root access. Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Open up the Settings app on your Moto X and under “Wireless & Networks,” tap “More…”
  2. Tap “Mobile networks.”
  3. Uncheck the box next to “Show mobile network.”

It’s as simple as that; your carrier’s name should now be removed from your status bar, and you’ll have more room for notification indicators.

Admittedly, this is an AT&T requirement, so it’s not all Motorola’s fault in some cases. Nevertheless, it’s nice to know we have the option to prevent it right out of the box.
