Pocket Update Version 5.4 Brings Immersive Mode As Well As Support For Five New Languages

Pocket is currently in the midst of pushing out a much-anticipated compatibility update for it’s official Android application via the Google Play Store. In terms of added functionality, this upgrade brings support for ‘Immersive Mode’, a new, refined layout equipped with revamped typography, in addition to a handful of bug fixes, speed optimizations and app translation for five new languages.

When browsing through saved webpages, you will notice that Pocket now takes full advantage of Android 4.4 KitKat’s integrated ‘Immersive Mode’ feature, which lets applications hide a smartphone notification and navigation panels, thus allowing apps to utilise the full area of the display. This is particularly useful if you have a smartphone with a relatively small screen as this gives you more space to display the content you’re passionate about.

Unfortunately, the added ‘fullscreen’ functionality is only available on devices running KitKat, so if you haven’t received the Android 4.4 update yet, it may seem like you’re out of the loop. But, thankfully, you’re not. Providing you have a device running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or higher, you will be able to enjoy a complete fullscreen experience as Pocket’s developers have hidden the notification bar.

Additionally, the changelog reveals that the application has been successfully translated into five new languages thanks to the help of loyal Pocket users. Among the newly-added languages are Chinese, Dutch, Korean, Polish and Portuguese. So, it’s certainly clear that the development team behind this extremely popular read-it-later service is dedicated to bringing support for its platform to as many countries as possible.

As always, the full changelog can be seen below:

  • Translated into more languages: Chinese, Dutch, Korean, Polish and Portuguese.
  • Fullscreen now uses Immersive Mode on Android 4.4 KitKat and hides the status bar on Android 4.1 and up.
  • Refined layout and typography, which ensures that headers, images and paragraphs all flow together seamlessly.
  • Automatic adjustments to layout and formatting when adjusting text size to deliver the most readable view.
