HTC Brings Dot View Case Companion App To Google Play

HTC today released its Dot View companion app for Sense 6 via Google Play, again signaling its intentions to decentralize built-in apps and make them easier to update. The app works alongside the new Dot View case for the HTC One M8 to deliver handy information to the lock screen.

The release comes just days after HTC brought a whole bunch of other Sense 6 apps to Google Play, including HTC Gallery, BlinkFeed, Zoe, and Sense TV. By doing this, the Taiwanese company can update them individually as and when required.

Before, HTC could only update these apps with a software update — which had to be approved by carriers and took a long time to roll out — meaning users had to wait months for bug fixes and improvements. That’s no longer going to be the case.

Dot View and the rest of the apps are only compatible with Sense 6 right now — which means they’re only compatible with the new HTC One M8 — but the new interface will eventually make its way to other HTC smartphones, starting with the original One this spring.
