Samsung has applied for a trademark on the name “NX Mini” for what could be an upcoming scaled-down variant of its first Android-powered mirrorless camera, which made its debut in November last year. The NX was welcomed by many keen photographers who wanted to experiment with the functionality that the open-source operating system had to offer.

Not much is revealed in the trademark’s filing, which was filed at the United States Patents and Trademarks Office straight after Christmas, this leads us to assume that we may see an official announcement of the Galaxy NX Mini at the Mobile World Congress, scheduled to take place from February 24-27, 2014, at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain.

There are no rumors, leaks or speculation on what downgrades the Mini could face, though, a lower megapixel count and lack of interchangeable lenses seem perfectly feasible.

It’s more than possible that this device will never see the light of day, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep our eyes peeled.
