Google Hangouts Update Brings SMS Importing, Group Messaging Changes

Hangouts

Google has started rolling out a new Hangouts update for Android that should alleviate a number of the problems users have been experiencing with the app. It lets you import SMS messages into the app when they aren’t appearing as they should, and adds a new option that allows you to disable MMS for group messaging.

You’ll find both of these options within the Hangouts Settings menu under “SMS.” The latter is undoubtedly the most important change, because it allows users who have to pay more to send MMS messages to disable MMS group messaging. Under previous versions of the app, this was done by default and users could not prevent it.

Hangouts 2.0.2 also brings the ability to configure APN settings on unlocked devices, which should fix MMS connectivity issues on certain devices.

You can download the latest version of Hangouts from Google Play now.
