As from today, Motorola’s first budget-friendly Moto X variant, the Moto G, is available to pre-order on Amazon. The handset will ship on Friday, December 6, so you will definitely have it in time for Christmas. Pricing is exactly the same as it is from Motorola itself — $179 for the 8GB model and $199 for the 16GB.

The Moto G is as a cheaper, scaled-down version of Motorola’s flagship Moto X. Sadly, it’s not quite as customizable as the latter, so you will not be able to use MotoMaker, but it does have interchangeable back panels with 19 different colors to choose from.

In terms of specifications, the Moto G is possibly one of the most impressive affordable entry-level handsets currently on the market, packing a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, an Adreno 305 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB/16GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter and a 2,070 mAh Li-Ion removable battery.

At this precise moment in time the device is only compatible with GSM networks in the U.S. — including AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile — but Motorola says a CDMA option will also be available in January, for those wishing to use a regular 3G cellular connection, instead of the newer GSM standard.
