Chromecast OTA Update Brings Build 12940
Google is pushing out a silent over-the-air update to all its Chromecast units, bringing some much-needed bug fixes and optimizations.
Chromecast has now been upgraded to version 12940, which introduces “better discovery of Chromecast devices,” as well as “improvements to stability when using Google Play Movies.”
In Addition, the Google Cast SDK developer preview was updated to version 1.0.1, which includes libraries for both Android and iOS together with documentation on the Receiver, Chrome and Android APIs.”This is a bug fix update with one key developer facing change for iOS — ‘namespace’ renamed to ‘protocolNamespace’ to allow Objective-C++ development.”
The official changelog can be seen below:
- Better discovery of Chromecast devices
- Improved Google Play Movies stability
Unfortunately at this stage, any applications developed for Chromecast cannot be distributed to the public; as the terms of the beta SDK prevents developers from releasing and distributing any APKs, until Google gives them the green light.
