Chromecast Sells Out Instantly On Google Play, Pops Up On Amazon [Updated]

Within minutes of unveiling its intriguing new Chromecast dongle, it looks like the Google Play store is already running out of supply of the cross-platform video streamer.

The new $35 device went on sale during Google’s San Francisco press event this morning with an original shipping estimate of one to two days, but now the ship date has been pushed back as far as August 7 for some shoppers.

When contacted by Cult of Android about the blazing-fast sellout, Google declined to give sales numbers.

“Nothing I can share,” said Google rep Gina Weakley Johnson. “Exciting though!”

With excited Chromecast chatter blowing up on Twitter, it looks like Google has a hardware hit on its hands — especially if the dongle works as advertised. The promise of seamlessly controlling streaming video on TVs from devices running Android, iOS or the Chrome browser is catnip to cross-platform gadget geeks.

If you didn’t get your order in fast enough, you can order Chromecast from Amazon (currently showing the device available for delivery tomorrow if you pony up for one-day shipping) or the Best Buy website. The device will supposedly be in Best Buy stores July 28 in the United States.

Chromecast is currently available from Amazon, to be delivered as early as Thursday.
