Samsung’s New Game Pad Accessory Gets Shown Off, Looks Awesome [Video]

Samsung unveiled a new Game Pad accessory at its Galaxy S4 event in Times Square last week, but it somehow got swept under the carpet while we all digested the news about the phone itself. Now it has appeared in a hands-on video from GamerHub, and we had to bring it to you, because we think it’s awesome.

The device works with Samsung’s new Game Arcade, and it essentially turns your Galaxy S4 into a portable console. It even works with Samsung’s Smart Dock, so you can plug it into your HDTV for an even greater experience.

The Game Pad connects to the Galaxy S4 via Bluetooth, like most Android game controllers, but it has one massive advantage over those already available. Because it has Samsung behind it, it supports a ton of games — it doesn’t just work with a select few titles from a select few developers.

According to the video below, the Game Pad will come with 8 games when it launches in May, but it will be compatible with more than 80 titles available in Samsung’s app store. And it’s sure to enhance your mobile gaming experience.

While some games work well on a touchscreen, there are others — such as first-person shooters, fast-paced platforms, and sports simulators — that really need physical controls to work well. That’s why I’m so excited about the Game Pad. Check it out below.

It’s unclear whether the Game Pad will work with existing Samsung devices, or whether it will be exclusively for the Galaxy S4 and future releases. I’m hoping older devices will see it, too. After all, some of them — such as the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II — should see Game Arcade.
