NY Giants Invite Fans To Try On Virtual Super Bowl Rings Using Augmented Reality App

If you were a sports fan growing up, chances are you stopped by your local fair or amusement park to have your photo superimposed onto the cover of Sports Illustrated. Our desire to join the ranks of sports celebrities hasn’t changed much over the years, but the technology used for sports photo novelties has. For the first time ever in the NFL, the New York Giants invite fans to try on their Super Bowl ring using augmented reality.

Augmented reality allows computer generated content to be superimposed and viewed live in a real world environment. To celebrate the unveiling of their Super Bowl XLVI championship ring, the New York Giants are inviting fans to share in the moment by using an augmented reality app on their Android or iOS device to virtually “try on” and take photos with the newly revealed Tiffany & Co.-designed ring. Fans can then upload their photos to Facebook, Twitter or by Email for a chance to have their photos showcased on Giants.com and Facebook.com/NewYorkGiants.

Any fan who uploads a photo will also have access to an array of limited-edition Tiffany & Co. Super Bowl XVLI commemoratives, that they can purchase instantly from their mobile device.

In order to get in on the fun, fans will have to:

  • Download the GoldRun app for iOS or Android.
  • After downloading the app to your mobile device, log in using Facebook connect or Twitter.
  • Click on the New York Giants featured image, click the camera icon on the Featured Screen.
  • Once in the camera view, snap away.
  • You can share your pictures directly from the app.
