Official National Rail Enquiries App Brings Real-Time U.K. Train Information To Android and iOS

You may have been quite content using such unofficial apps as the UK Train Times for your detailed, real-time U.K. train information but we thought you’d like to know that an official U.K. National Rail app has finally made its way to Anroid and iOS. Announced yesterday, the official National Rail Enquiries app for iOS and Android feature detailed, real-time information as well as:

  • My travel – One place for your favourite journeys and stations. Find the next train home and get relevant live updates at a glance
  • Live trains – View real-time departures and arrivals boards for any station
  • Progress tracking – From A to B and everything in between, find out exactly where a train is along a route
  • Journey planner – Plan your journeys with up-to-the-minute travel information. Track the progress of trains and disruptions along your route
  • Watch a train – Pin a train to My travel to watch its progress with a single tap
  • Push notifications – Get disruption alerts as they happen
  • Wake-up alerts – Avoid missing your stop or getting caught out when the train divides or arrives at its destination
  • Tube and DLR – Plan your journey to or from London Zone 1 Underground and DLR stations

The app is free on both Android and iOS and thus comes with the nuisance of ads but I believe an ad-free version is in the works (don’t quote me on that). Either way, it’s a great tool that is sure to enhance your train traveling experience and it won’t cost you anything but the few seconds you’ll have to wait for it to download.

Have you read the iTunes Store reviews of this App ? Titles include “Shameless Ripoff”, “Highly Unethical Behaviour” and “Horrific” – and that’s just the first page. Do some research !

That’s because those people were under the impression
Agant’s UK Train Times was the official app when all it really is, is a 3rd party application that licenses the National Rail Enquiries real time train running information. This app is in fact the official app from National Rail Enquires. I hope that clears up the confusion.

        Er…

Having downloaded the App I agree with the comments users have posted.

Which App are you reviewing and linking to ? This page was down for a while, so I assume you’ve updated your links.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s very possible the app is terrible, I have not reviewed it. I was just reporting the news that the National Rail Enquiries have released their own official app onto Android and iOS.

Until now they have been licensing their real time train information out to third parties such as Agant’s UK Train. There’s a handful of apps that license this information. If you look at the link I posted in my other comment it will take you to the page that lists all of the third party developer apps that license their information.

The National Rail Enquiries decided to go ahead and put out their own official app, which is the one I’m reporting on. It’s too bad that the official app apparently sucks (as you and others seem to agree on), hopefully they will update it after reading user comments.
