Alcatel Onetouch today unveiled its new Idol 3 4.7, a smaller version of the flagship Idol 3, which brings impressive specifications for under $180 off-contract. The device makes its debut in the U.S. and Canada this Friday, August 14.

We’ve been using the Idol 3 in the Cult of Android offices for several months, and we’re huge fans of it, but its large 5.5-inch display might be unwieldy for some. That’s where the new Idol 3 4.7 comes in with a smaller, 4.7-inch display with a 720p resolution that offers 312 pixels-per-inch.

The device is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with Adreno 306 graphics, plus 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. There’s also a 13-megapixel camera on its back, a 5-megapixel camera on its front, and a 2,000mAh battery.

That’s a very attractive list of specifications for a device that costs just $179.99 off-contract, and sports an attractive design with front-facing stereo speakers from JBL. The Idol 3 4.7 also offers Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, and a day one update will bring a fix for the dreaded Stagefright flaw.

You’ll be able to get your Idol 3 4.7 in the U.S. and Canada on Friday from the Alcatel Onetouch online store via the source link below, or from Amazon.com.
