Sony delivers bad news to Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V owners

Xperia-KitKat

Sony has all but confirmed that its midrange Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V handsets will not be receiving an Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade. All three devices will remain on the latest version of Jelly Bean… at least officially.

Sony has been evaluating a whole bunch of its older Xperia devices to establish whether or not they are capable of running KitKat smoothly, and the Japanese company has previously warned that those what can’t will remain on KitKat. Unfortunately for the trio listed above, that seems to be the case.

A graphic on the product pages of these devices previously said that they were “Under Investigation for Android 4.4 (KitKat),” but today that status changed to “Latest and final version.” Sony is yet to make an announcement confirming the news, but this all but confirms there is no official KitKat upgrade for these devices.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be third-party KitKat updates, however. The development community often finds ways to bring the latest software to older hardware, so if yours has a strong backing from those developers, you could well be in luck. Just this week a KitKat release was made available for the 4-year-old Motorola Droid X, so anything is possible.
