Samsung Galaxy S5 Crystal Collection coming this May [Video]

You love everything the Galaxy S5 has to offer — except its somewhat tacky plastic form factor. What if you could get one that ditched the Band-Aid-like backplate for one covered in Swarovski crystals?

You’ll be able to in May, when Samsung launches its new Galaxy S5 Crystal Collection, teased in the short video below.

Samsung’s 12-second clip, which was published on its official YouTube channel today, doesn’t tell us anything about the new Galaxy S5 — but it does show off its sparkling, crystal-encrusted backplate. It’s thought that aside from the snazzy design change, the handset itself will be identical to the original.

So, you’ll get the same 5.1-inch 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, a 16-megapixel camera, and presumably the Finger Scanner and heartbeat sensor as well. However, it’s unclear whether the new backplate will have any affect on the Galaxy S5’s IP67 water-resistance rating.

It’s also unclear how much this device will cost. The regular Galaxy S5 retails for $699 in the U.S. off-contract, but we suspect you’ll be paying a lot more for all those crystals. That’s if this device comes to the U.S. at all; it will make its debut in South Korea, but Samsung hasn’t made any promises for other markets.
