Gold HTC One Now Available SIM-Free In The U.K.

Gold-HTC-One

The new gold HTC One is now available to purchase SIM-free in the United Kingdom, thanks to Expansys. The device is priced at £479.99 ($794), which is a little pricey given the HTC One is almost a year old now, but it’s certainly a lot less than you’ll pay if you get it on a two-year contract.

The gold HTC One first went on sale in the U.K. through Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U back in December, but both retailers only sell the device to customers who are willing to sign into a new two-year contract.

Expansys is offering the device without a carrier commitment, allowing you to put an existing SIM card into it.

If you ignore its fancy paint job, then the gold HTC One is the same as the original. It boasts a 4.7-inch 1080p display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. It ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and HTC’s latest Sense 5.5 user interface, but it will be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat soon.

Those certainly aren’t bad specifications — even for a device that’s almost a year old. But keep in mind that HTC is expected to announce the One’s successor very soon — possibly at Mobile World Congress next month — so you may end up with an outdated smartphone a lot sooner than you think.
