Customers picking up the new Sony Xperia Z1 Compact in the United Kingdom can get their hands on a free SmartWatch 2 if they pre-order the device directly from Sony’s online store.

Announced at CES last week, the new smartphone packs all of the original Xperia Z1’s high-end specifications into a smaller smartphone for those who prefer something a little more pocketable.

Sony-SmartWatch-2So, you get the Xperia Z1’s 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, the same 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and 4G LTE connectivity. It also has a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing Exmor RS camera with Sony’s award-winning G Lens, and it’s dust- and water-resistant, with IP55 and IP58 certification — just like its bigger brother.

The biggest difference between the two devices is the screen size. While the original Xperia Z1 has a 5-inch display, the Z1 Compact’s display measures just 4.3 inches diagonally, allowing the device to be much smaller. The larger model measures 144.4mm tall by 73.9mm wide, while the Z1 Compact measures 127mm tall by 64.9mm wide.

Sony is selling the Z1 Compact for £449 ($735) SIM-free, but the SmartWatch 2 is worth £150 ($246) on its own (if you buy it directly from Sony). While we wouldn’t recommend spending that on the device, it’s certainly a nice free gift.
