HTC Butterfly Gets Android 4.2.2 With Sense 5

Just days after rolling out the Android 4.2.2 update to the flagship HTC One in Europe, HTC has made the same software — with the latest Sense 5 user interface baked in — available to the Butterfly, the Taiwanese variant of the Droid DNA.

It’s the first time Sense 5 has been ported to an older device.

Engadget reports that the update comes in two packages: one to prepare the handset for the upgrade, and then the upgrade itself. The first weighs in at just 1.39MB, while the second is 551.69MB, which version number 2.28.709.2.

HTC had warned that owners of older smartphones may not see all Sense 5 features, but it appears that the Buttefly has almost all of them — even BlinkFeed, which delivers news from your favorite sources to your home screen.

It’s unclear whether the same software will be made available to the Droid DNA, a Verizon exclusive in the United States, but we don’t see any good reason why it wouldn’t be.
