Amazon Takes A Swipe At The iPad’s Price Tag In New Kindle Fire Ad [Video]

Amazon prides itself on offering affordable Android tablets, and so it likes to point that out whenever it gets the opportunity to do so. Usually this means taking a swipe at more expensive devices, and it’s Apple’s iPad that’s on the receiving end again in the company’s new commercial.

Focusing on the high-resolution displays in both devices, Amazon suggests that “you may not be able to tell the difference” between them… until you look at the price tags.

The iPad’s 9.7-inch Retina display — which boasts a 2048×1536 resolution at 264 pixels-per-inch — is widely regarded as one of the best tablet displays there is. But Apple’s rivals have been working to match it with high-resolution displays of their own. Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD 8.9’ has a 1920×1200 display at 254 pixels-per-inch.

Both devices offer “stunning HD,” according to Amazon, and “you may not be able to tell the difference.” But the company insists that your wallet certainly will, with the $299 Kindle Fire HD being $200 less than the cheapest iPad with Retina display.

Amazon has pointed out Apple’s premium price tags before. Back in October, shortly after Apple announced the iPad mini, Amazon ran a massive ad on its homepage that attempted to convince consumers the Kindle Fire HD offered better specifications for a lot less money.

The company pulled the advert when it realized the iPad mini had stereo sound — not mono sound as it had suggested.

    People aren’t as price driven as Amazon may believe. People also know when they’re getting something of quality and when they’re settling for less.

    I think being able to sample and play with the iPad before buying, receiving hands-on training in the store and access to the Genius Bar, all at no additional charge, makes a big difference to ordering something online then dealing with a call center in a third-world country for post-sales support.

    @Mark.

    Sure, that would explain why apples share price is plummeting like it is… Because of all the extra value you get when purchasing a inflated, inferior product. Hahahaha, suck on your sinking mac-ship, iDiots.
