Is That An iPhone 5? No, It’s A Leaked Render For HTC’s Upcoming M7 Smartphone

HTC is set to announce a new flagship smartphone at Mobile World Congress next month, and recent rumors have revealed it’s set to be called the HTC M7. We already know a lot about its internal specifications, thank to previous leaks, but we had no idea what the handset would look like — until today.

Now we’re led to believe the device is going to look almost identical to the iPhone 5.

Admittedly, it looks more like the back of the iPhone 5 than the front of it, but that doesn’t make it any more acceptable. It’s almost an exact copy. I must point out at this point, however, that this is a leaked image, and we have no way of confirming its authenticity. According to UnwiredView, the image is part of a short animation clip that was extracted from an early version of the M7’s firmware.

Having said that, HTC is one of the worst at controlling leaks. Almost all of its devices are revealed in product manuals, renders, or press shots before they get their official unveiling, so we have no reason to believe the M7 will be different. Hopefully, this image will just be a mockup, and the final design of the handset will be a little different.

I’m not saying it’s ugly; in fact I think it’s quite the opposite. It’s a pretty smartphone. I just think it’s too much like the iPhone 5.

Inside that body, the M7 is expected to offer a 4.7-inch 1080p display, a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. As far as cameras go, we’re expecting a 13-megapixel camera on the back, and a 2-megapixel camera on the front.

The HTC M7 will get its official unveiling at MWC in February, according to recent reports, so it won’t be too long before we see its final design.
