AT&T’s new unlimited data plans come with a catch

Don't be surprised if you see angry mobs forming around your local AT&T store.

Don’t be surprised if you see angry mobs forming around your local AT&T store.

AT&T is bringing back unlimited data plans after killing the offering two years ago.

The new data plans will cost $100 per month for one smartphone, but there’s a big catch if you want to sign up: You have to be a DirecTV and U-Verse subscriber.

Only new and existing AT&T wireless customers who also have or add DirecTV or AT&T U-verse are eligible for the plans which let you stream all the content you want. It also comes with unlimited talk and text.

Additional lines can be added for $40. The fourth line is free, but you’ll have to pay a total of $220 per month for the first two months until a credit is added to your account.

If you’re not already an AT&T subscriber but you have U-Verse or DirecTV, this deal kind of makes switching a no-brainer (unless you want a cheaper phone bill). AT&T will give subscribers a $500 credit to switch carriers to the unlimited plan when you trade in or buy a smartphone.

The new plans will be available tomorrow, but AT&T is promising other exciting new deals throughout 2016.
