Trippy game Katamari Damacy rolls onto mobile at last

Describing the funky weirdness of Katamari Damacy has always been somewhat of a challenge. You play a pill-headed little person who must roll a big sticky ball around various environments, picking up weird stuff like rice candy, cows, and pencils, while taking your quests from some odd king-looking dude who speaks in an odd, english as a second language-flavored patois.

It’s bizarre, but super fun, and its coming to a mobile phone near you as Tap My Katamari on iOS and Android. Check out the teaser trailer below.

Looks like the King of All Cosmos is back, telling the Prince (you) what to do and hogging all the credit. Originally out on PlayStation 2, Katamari games have been seen on the PlayStation Portable, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the PlayStation Vita, not to mention iOS, Windows Phone 7, and Android.

Original publisher Bandai Namco is back at it, rolling up it’s funky beats and weird situations once again; it can’t help but be fun, even though the original developer has since moved on from the title. The press release says that you’ll have up to 35 new cousins to help grow your Katamari (the big sticky ball thing you roll around on each level), and there’ll be offline play available, so you’re not stuck with a small Katamari when on an airplane.

The fun here is in the wackiness, so revel in it while you can, and look forward to the release of the game sometime “soon.”
