SwiftKey’s latest update brings major performance improvements and new themes

SwiftKey-5

SwiftKey has started rolling out an update for the Android version of its keyboard that brings some major performance improvements across the board.

SwiftKey might be one of the best keyboards available for Android devices out there but it suffers from some serious performance issues. Even after a couple of major updates, the company never managed to fixed the slow loading times and the slight lag while entering text issue with its keyboard. The recently introduced Emoji keyboard made matters worse as sometimes it could take nearly 2 to 5 seconds to pop up on the screen.

The company promised to solve these performance issues in a future update, which it has started rolling out today. The full change-log of the update is as follows:

  • Improved typing performance
  • Improved translations
  • Improved keyboard loading time
  • Improved Flow performance
  • Fix for the bottom row being hidden in some devices
  • Fixed Yahoo! personalization
  • Fixed background disappearing issue in some themes
  • Fixed various other force closes and crashes

As a long time SwiftKey user, I can only hope and wish that the company has solved all the performance issues with the keyboard once and for all.

The company is also including some new themes with this update — Spotlight Purple, Edge Green, Pulse Yellow, Pulse Pink and Hazy Pink. Lastly, some of the paid themes for the keyboard can also be grabbed at a 33% discount.
