Sony unveiled the Xperia Z2 tablet back at MWC in February but the tablet has gone on sale only in a handful of markets. Today, the company announced that it is bringing its latest flagship tablet to the world’s largest smartphone and tablet market — the United States.

The Sony Xperia Z2 tablet will hit the retail stores on May 4th with a price tag of $499.99 for the 16GB version. The 32GB variant will set users back by $599.99. Both these variants are the Wi-Fi only one as Sony does not offer the Z2 with an integrated LTE modem.

The Xperia Z2 is the world’s thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablet, beating even the iPad Air significantly, with a waistline of 6.4mm and weight of 439 grams. Other specs of the tablet include a 10.1-inch Full HD (1920*1200) TRILUMINOS and Live Color LCD, a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, an Adreno 330 GPU, an 8MP rear-facing camera, 2.2MP front-facing camera and an IR blaster. The tablet also sports a dust and water-resistant design that gives it a IP58 certified rating and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Interested buyers can already pre-order the tablet from Sony’s online web-store in the U.S for $499.99. Here is hoping that Sony also brings its latest smartphone — the Xperia Z2 — to the United States sometime soon.
