Blackphone

Geeksphone and Silent Circle, the makers of the privacy friendly Blackphone, have now shared more details on the hardware and the availability of the smartphone. The two companies were present at the MWC in Barcelona to demonstrate the functioning of the device.

The phone runs a custom version of Android called PrivatOS, which comes built in with all the necessary security features to keep the spies away. The handset also sports a 4.7 inch display, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity and 16GB of internal storage. Interested customers can pre order the smartphone today for a whopping $629, with shipping slated to commence in June.

In addition to the hardware, Silent Circle is including a bunch of neat software features keeping user security in mind. This includes anonymous web search, secure calling, text messages and even secure video calls. The smartphone also comes with a secure Wi-Fi feature which shows the smartphone only to trusted networks and connections. Quite a remarkable list of features that we see there, but the pricing could be a concern for potential buyers.
