Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra Could Be Launching Soon [Rumor]

A new leak has revealed that Sony’s second-generation Xperia Z2 Ultra phablet could launch sooner than expected. An inside source who has been leaking Sony information on Twitter claims the device will unveiled alongside the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Tablet Z2 — possibly at Mobile World Congress next week.

User @gadgetleaks has now deleted the original tweet for unknown reasons, but it read, “expect an Xperia Z2 Ultra and Xperia Z2 alongside Xperia Tablet Z2.” The tweet was followed by another that warned this information was from a draft document and that Sony’s final launch plans haven’t been confirmed yet.

What’s also unclear at this point is when Sony plans to launch the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Tablet Z2. Recent reports have claimed that the devices could appear at MWC in Barcelona next week — Sony does have an event scheduled — but it’s best to take this with caution for now.

We’ve heard a lot about the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Tablet Z2 already, but the mention of the Xperia Z2 Ultra is a new one. And given that the original device is only 8 months old, it seems unlikely Sony will be planning to launch a successor already — unless it wants the device to be on the same release cycle as its other two flagships.

We’ll be live-blogging Sony’s event next week, so whatever happens, you’ll hear about it here first.
