Back in April, the team at Mountain View officially announced that “in the coming months,” Google would be expanding its Fiber Internet connection to Provo, Utah, and today the first installations of the service are already under way.

In July, Google acquired iProvo, a fiber optic network that was already in place in the city. Therefore, the expansion process was much quicker than we anticipated, and now Provo residents, who belong to the existing iProvo network, will be given the opportunity to have Google’s 1Gbps Fiber Internet service installed in their homes.

“In order to bring Fiber to Provo, we’ve signed an agreement to purchase iProvo, an existing fiber-optic network owned by the city. As a part of the acquisition, we would commit to upgrade the network to gigabit technology and finish network construction so that every home along the existing iProvo network would have the opportunity to connect to Google Fiber.” Says, Google.

In addition, Google is also offering a 5MBps connection free for 7 years, however, you will have to pay a $30 installation fee to qualify.
