Google Axes Netflix/Chromecast Promotion Due To “Overwhelming Demand”

Yes, it's over, Michael.

Yes, it’s over, Michael.

When Google unveiled the $35 Chromecast dongle yesterday, it revealed that three free months of Netflix (for new and existing customers) would be bundled with each purchase. You don’t have to be a mathematician to realize that such a deal means the Chromecast basically pays for itself, which is awesome.

Unfortunately, the promotion was short lived, as Google has already ended the deal with Netflix. The reason? “Overwhelming demand.”

Google told the LA Times that, “Due to overwhelming demand for Chromecast devices since launch, the 3-month Netflix promotion (which was available in limited quantities) is no longer available.”

After making the device available for sale yesterday, Google’s Chromecast quickly sold out of initial supplies on both the Google Play Store and Amazon in a matter of minutes.
