Iron Man Actor Robert Downey Jr. To Sign With HTC For $12 Million Ad Campaign

Iron Man uses a HTC phone, or at least the actor who plays him. Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly partnered with HTC for a $12 million ad campaign that will last for the next two years, according to Bloomberg.

RDJ will be appearing in the ads as himself, not the Marvel superhero he has become a household name for portraying. Hey, it’s still better than Dawson’s Creek.

The campaign is said to run on TV, billboards, and print. RDJ will reportedly have the final say on creative decisions, which will make for an interesting campaign indeed.

HTC has been struggling for awhile. The Taiwanese manufacturer has had difficultly selling its new flagship Android device, the HTC One. Competition from Samsung and the Galaxy S4 has resulted in weaker sales for HTC and the company hasn’t really been a major player—despite garnering positive reviews—in the U.S. for years.

The good news is that RDJ just signed on to be Iron Man in the next two Avengers movies. The Avengers 2 is slated to premiere in the U.S. on May 1st, 2015.
