Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 To Feature Intel Clover Trail+ [Report]
According to a recent report published by Reuters, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will not be powered by the typical ARM processors – instead it will be powered by Intel’s latest Clover Trail+ CPU, marking the highest-profile Android launch for Intel.
Intel was founded in 1968 and has since produced thousands of processors for computers, however, the popular chipmaker hasn’t been able to gain a strong hold in the mobile market. This is due to the popularity of ARM processors (which power most Android devices). Although, previous Intel Atom chips have made their way into various Android smartphones.
Intel CEO Brian Krzanich has stated that one of his top goals is to expand Intel’s footprint into mobile devices; this could be by both producing newer and more powerful chips, or publicizing their chips on a global scale, much like AMD does.
The deal between Intel and Samsung hasn’t been finalised yet, Reuters reports. Although Samsung could be using Intel chips in its upcoming ATIV Windows tablets, they could still use different processors in other versions of the Galaxy Tab 3.
It is more than possible that the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will be unveiled at the same time as the launch of Samsung’s ATIV Windows tablets on June 2oth. Judging by the popularity and ‘awesomeness’ of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Unboxed event, it is also possible that Samung could create a separate event to debut the company’s next flagship Android slate.
According to IDC, Samsung holds nearly 18% of the market for tablets, so this could be the big break Intel needs to power the mobile market.
