For many years, AMOLED displays have been favored by Samsung, but it appears this could soon be about to change. According to industry insiders, the Korean company will use an LCD Display in the upcoming Galaxy Note III to provide an improved S Pen experience.

Samsung recently purchased a 3% stake in Sharp for $112 million to secure shipments of its LCD displays, most of which will be used in Samsung’s televisions. But the company may also be interested in Sharp’s smaller LCD panels, too, if the latest rumors is anything to go by.

SamMobile’s sources say that using an LCD display in the next-generation Galaxy Note would provide an improved S Pen experience.

It’s unclear how the S Pen experience could be improved really — it’s already pretty flawless on Samsung’s existing AMOLED displays. But it’s one of the Note’s headline features, so it’s no wonder Samsung’s working hard to ensure it’s the best it can be.
