Amazon has started sending out invites for a new device launch event that it is holding on June 18th in Seattle. The email is accompanied by a video that shows people interacting with a mysterious device, which makes them go all gaga over it.

They are also tilting their head with the smartphone in various directions, indicating that the rumors about the smartphone coming with a 3D interface are probably true.

Rumors about Amazon working on its own smartphone have been circulating on the Internet for the last couple of years, with leaks suggesting that the eCommerce giant is finally ready to unveil its handset this year. The handset is rumored to pack cameras (or infrared sensors) on all its four sides, allowing the 3D UI to take advantage of it for some cool effects.

Leaks from BGR have pointed out that Amazon’s first smartphone will be pretty tame in the specs department and feature a 4.7-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, a Snapdragon processor and a 13MP snapper on the back. It is also rumored that Amazon’s first smartphone will come with a special tiered data plan that will provide users with a certain amount of free Prime videos and audio streaming that does not count against their monthly data allowance.

With June 18th just a couple of weeks away, expect more details about Amazon’s first smartphone to make its way on the Internet soon.
