Sony Xperia Z2 Tops DxOMark’s Mobile Camera Benchmarks

Sony-Xperia-Z2

On paper, the Xperia Z2 sports the same 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor with an F/2.0 G Lens camera as its predecessor — the Xperia Z1. However, Sony has made a lot of underlying changes and tweaked its image processing algorithms to deliver better performance with its latest flagship handset. Initial reviews of the handset suggest that the Xperia Z2 camera can stand its own against the likes of the HTC One (M8), Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and the LG G Pro 2.

Now, according to the tests conducted by the team over at DxOMark, the Xperia Z2 has the most impressive camera they have ever tested. According to their tests, the Xperia Z2 has impressive color and detail preservation in outdoors as well as in more challenging lighting situations. The camera also retains the fast autofocus times as seen on the Z1 with improved precision. Noise levels in photos were low as well with no chroma noise being found except for some fine-grained luminance type noise being visible in some cases.

Thanks to its impressive performance in varying conditions, the Xperia Z2 managed to grab the number one rank in DxOMark’s combined stills and video benchmark tests. In the stills image department, the handset shares the top spot with the Nokia 808 Pureview, which is not an easy task to achieve in itself.
