Tumblr-sold

Yahoo! has this morning announced that it has reached a deal to acquire popular blogging platform Tumblr for $1.1 billion. The company promises “not to screw it up,” and says that Tumblr will continue to operate as a separate business, with David Karp remaining CEO.

Just over a month after acquiring Summly for $30 million, Yahoo! has gobbled up another smartphone app. This time it’s Astrid, a pretty task management client for Android and iOS, which has a strong focus on sharing. Astrid announced the news on its blog today.

Yahoo! is today rolling out the latest version of its Android app, which boasts an all-new design and Summly integration, a week after it made its debut on iOS. The update comes just over a month after Yahoo! acquired Summly for $30 million from British teenager Nick D’Aloisio.

WhatsApp has denied that it is holding sales talks with Google following reports that the company is on the verge of a $1 billion buyout. One source claimed last week that the hugely popular cross-platform messaging service has been in talks with Google for the last 4-5 weeks, but WhatsApp’s business development lead, Neeraj Arora, denies any discussions.

While I’m sure the majority of you are using Gmail, I’m betting there’s still a large number of users out there holding onto that old Yahoo! Mail account for contests, newsletters, special offers, etc. Even if you are using Yahoo! Mail as your main account, we won’t judge — but we will tell you about today’s update.
