Evolution

We all dig wallpapers. They’re often one of the first changes we make to our devices and generally symbolize our moods, interests or wicked alter egos. Some people pick one and stick with it for life, whereas other people change it more frequently than a teenager changes their status on Facebook. Each day we’re going to feature a free wallpaper for you to download and use on your Android device and today’s choice is ‘Droid Evolution’.

KitKat 10

Android 4.4 is one of Google’s most intriguing updates yet, predominantly because it brings a revamped version of Androids traditional UI, in addition to shipping with some of the most unique stock wallpapers we have ever seen. However, unless we purchase the Nexus 5, it’ll be quite a while until we can get our hands on the new OS – which would mean we didn’t get to enjoy the beauty of the freshly designed backgrounds for some time.

But thanks to a very generous Android enthusiast, we have obtained a system dump consisting of all 10 wallpapers which ship with KitKat. So, fortunately, we do not have to wait for the operating system to be ported to our devices before we can download and install the backgrounds.

Galaxy-Note-3-apps

While the Galaxy Note 3’s massive display may not be for you, you may wish to run some of the handset’s built-in apps on your smaller Galaxy S4. Fortunately, there are developers out there who are hard at work porting them over, and you can download and install a number of them now.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and while Apple has tested this assumption in court against Samsung and other mobile device manufacturers, Android users and developers might have a different opinion.

Because, as you can see from the screenshot above, a whole bunch of apps have appeared in the Google Play store with the express purpose of making your Android handset look just like…well, an iPhone running iOS 7.

Of course, the argument could be made that only Android is open enough to actually allow its users to change the look and feel of their devices to a competing system’s visual system, but the result is still clear: Android developers, at least, think that you should be able to have a mobile phone that looks like the latest iOS devices on the screen as well as in the design of the handset itself.

There are lock screen apps for Android that mimic the parallax of the new iOS 7, apps that call themselves iOS 7 wallpaper, when they really aren’t, and apps that are just plain honest, titled iOS 7 Fake iPhone.

Hit some of those links above to try these out on your own, because we all know it’d be cool to have an Android phone that looks like an iPhone running iOS 7.

Right?

Discuss.

New-Nexus-wallpaper

Android 4.3 isn’t exactly Google’s most exciting update to date — most of its changes take place under the hood — but it does come with a snazzy new wallpaper that you will have seen in all of the promotional shots for the new Nexus 7.

You don’t need to wait for the Android 4.3 update to arrive to get that, however. You can download it here right now.
