Nintendo has denied claims that its upcoming NX console will run Android.
An earlier report out of Japan, citing sources familiar with Nintendo’s plans, promised that the NX would employ Android software in an effort to attract new users and developers. But unfortunately for those excited by that prospect, it’s not going to happen.
An Android-based Nintendo console? Yes please.
Details about Nintendo’s next-gen NX console won’t officially be shared by the company until 2016, but according to a new report coming out of Japan one thing we might be able to expect is for the NX hardware to run a version of Android.
The decision is said to be rooted in Nintendo’s desire to give developers increased flexibility in making content that can also be used on smartphones and tablets.
The first Nintendo game will land on smartphones this year.
Nintendo will deliver its first smartphone game by the end of this year, and there will be four more to come by 2017, president Satoru Iwata has confirmed.
While they may not sound like a whole lot, Nintendo insists it will demonstrate its commitment to smartphones and tablets by delivering quality games that are supported long after their release dates.

The video game world rejoiced yesterday at the news that Nintendo is finally backing down on its anti-smartphone and tablet stance, and is working to bring its most beloved franchises to Android and iOS.
But gamers aren’t the only ones celebrating!
Nintendo shares shot up 21 percent in the 24 hours after the company said it was teaming with Tokyo-based mobile company DeNA to develop smartphone games. The result was Nintendo’s value on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rising to its best closing price since June 2011.
Nintendo refuses to bring its immensely popular games to smartphones and tablets for fear of damaging its own hardware sales, but the Japanese gaming giant isn’t against building mobile companion apps. The much-anticipated Mario Kart 8 will be accompanied by Mario Kart TV for Android and iOS, allowing players to replay their favorite races, view screenshots, and share gameplay with their friends.
