Galaxy-S4-lock-screen

If you happen to be a fan of what Samsung’s doing with TouchWiz, then you may be interested in a new app that brings the Galaxy S4’s lock screen to other Android-powered smartphones. It’s free and it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and above, and you can download it now from Google Play.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and while Apple has tested this assumption in court against Samsung and other mobile device manufacturers, Android users and developers might have a different opinion.

Because, as you can see from the screenshot above, a whole bunch of apps have appeared in the Google Play store with the express purpose of making your Android handset look just like…well, an iPhone running iOS 7.

Of course, the argument could be made that only Android is open enough to actually allow its users to change the look and feel of their devices to a competing system’s visual system, but the result is still clear: Android developers, at least, think that you should be able to have a mobile phone that looks like the latest iOS devices on the screen as well as in the design of the handset itself.

There are lock screen apps for Android that mimic the parallax of the new iOS 7, apps that call themselves iOS 7 wallpaper, when they really aren’t, and apps that are just plain honest, titled iOS 7 Fake iPhone.

Hit some of those links above to try these out on your own, because we all know it’d be cool to have an Android phone that looks like an iPhone running iOS 7.

Right?

HTC-One-Android-4-2-2

The much-anticipated Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean upgrade for the flagship HTC One has begun its rollout in Taiwan, just days after making its debut in China. The over-the-air release weighs in at 465MB and introduces a number of key new features.

Itching to get the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update on your Samsung Galaxy S III? Well today could be your lucky day. A pre-release version of the software has been leaked online, allowing Galaxy S III owners to get the latest Jelly Bean features in advance of Samsung’s official release.

The software comes with a long list of new features — some of which are currently only available on the Galaxy S4 (officially) — plus some user interface tweaks and other improvements.

A new update is making its way to Samsung Galaxy S III handsets on Sprint this week. In addition to fixing a lock screen flaw that allows users to bypass any security locks you have set — exactly one week after it was fixed on the Galaxy Note II — it also introduces Samsung’s excellent Multi-View feature, and more.

For those unfamiliar with Multi-View, it’s a TouchWiz feature that was first introduced to the Galaxy Note II, and it allows you to run two apps side-by-side simultaneously. So you can watch YouTube videos while you chat to friends on Facebook, or keep an eye on the sports scores while you reply to emails.

It’s true multitasking on a smartphone, and Samsung’s the only smartphone manufacturer that provides it — for now, at least.

The update also makes improvements to the built-in Gallery, Camera, and Paper Artist apps, and addresses the lock screen security flaw that was discovered on a number of popular Samsung smartphones earlier this year.

The update is rolling out over-the-air to Sprint users as I write this, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you should do fairly soon.
